Change of Plans...

Happy New Year, Everyone!  2012 is upon and it is starting off more eventful than we had anticipated.  We already knew that God had Baby #2 in store for our family in 2012, but that isn’t the only big event headed our way.  After much prayer, consideration, and discussion we have decided to leave Savannah and to move the Atlanta/ North Atlanta area.  This decision is based solely on the fact that Brent wishes to use sedation as part of his dentistry practice and the group he is currently with does not wish to add this option to their treatment.  We love and respect this amazing group of men and their wonderful families and leave with the utmost appreciation and warmest feelings for all of them.  This truly came down to Brent’s desire to utilize all facets of the extensive training he was provided at Baylor.  We will be forever appreciative of the opportunity afforded to us in Savannah and realize that in leaving we are giving up an incredible practice with incredible people.  They have treated us like family from day one and we will always speak of them in the highest regards and hope to always keep in touch.  In the end, Brent decided he needed to insure that he could practice how he could be happiest in order to sustain a 30+ year career and this decision was made accordingly.

So, where does this leave us?  It’s bittersweet.  We are obviously sad it didn't work out, nervous, and anxious.  We are also excited for this new chapter.  We are excited to be closer to my family, of course.  It hasn’t been easy being 4.5 hours away.  It’s hard to believe we will have help nearby…more date nights for us!!  We also have a ton of friends in the Atlanta area and it will be exciting to be near them again for the first time since college or dental school.  We will also be about 2.5 hours from Brent’s family instead of 2, but are grateful that it is not too much further and know we will continue to see them often!  I grew up in Roswell and obviously have fond memories of my childhood North of Atlanta.  The public schools are amazing there, so yay for saving on private school.  Also, living in the Atlanta area there is always something to do or see...lots of exposure for the kids.  So, we wait with anticipation and patience to see what God has in store for us!

This is obviously a very scary time for us, I am pregnant, we have a one year old, and an uncertain future.  But, people face these kinds of things (and much, much, much worse) everyday and we are not exempt from bumps in the road.  Brent and I are planners and this is the first time in our married life that we don’t have Plan A followed directly by Plan B.  My best friend Erin says this is good for us, that it will be a valuable lesson that everything can’t be planned 100% and that things will be okay (Thanks Er)!  We are once again humbled by the kindness of the doctors at the practice in Savannah in the interim, as they will be allowing Brent to stay while he looks for another job and as they search for his replacement.  For this we are truly grateful and we wish them all the best and pray that they too find the person that is the perfect fit for their practice.

I have a sweet friend, Kelly Thompson who I met at my Windsor Spring days in Augusta.  We don’t keep in touch on a regular basis, but I promise you, she always seems to pop up just when I need it most.  When Ella was colicky she sent me encouragement and reassurance that it would pass.  She had had a similar experience with her oldest son who turned out to be the most laid back little boy once the colic passed!!  Recently, she emailed me congratulating me about Baby #2 and said something along the lines of, “At least you won’t be doing a cross country move right after you have this one.”  I emailed her back…..well actually…and explained the scenario (asking her to keep the info confidential, of course).  She responded to me with a series of emails that just helped me to feel so at peace.  I will leave you with the words she wrote in her last email.

I do apologize if this news is catching you off guard and that I haven’t told you in person.  We made sure that Brent's employers knew first and foremost before we breathed a word to anyone else.  They told the entire office yesterday so we felt it was appropriate to let people know now that the office knows.  Sometimes it’s just easier to write it all down and send it into the cybersphere while I'm still wrapping my head around everything.  I think I’ve been feeling very overwhelmed (but in a good way).  But, I know that this is the plan for us and that God will see us through our fourth major move in 5.5 years  of marriage.  If you do live in the Roswell/ Atlanta/ Marietta/ Alpharetta area and know a pediatric dentist that is looking to sell a practice or needs an associate, could you PLEASE let me know??!!  Also, any names of people that your kids see would also be greatly appreciated as it never hurts to email a resume.  Thanks in advance for your help!!

This is what Kelly emailed to me...these words remind us that things will work out in accordance to God's plan:

For the sake of Christ, God has loved you with an everlasting love. He is your Father and He knows your sorrow and counts your tears.

He chose you before the foundation of the world, to live this life, with these people, in this very specific circumstance.
