Since December, life has literally been up in the air for our family. There were three things that were certain of: 1. Brent knew in his heart that he wanted to utilize skills in his training that the practice in Savannah did not feel comfortable implementing. At the end of the day as much as he loves and respects the men he works with, he had to follow his heart. 2. We needed a plan by May 1st (the last day I am cleared to travel b/c of my preterm labor history) & 3. We would ideally like to live in the Atlanta/North-Fulton suburbs. Other than that, everything was just a huge question mark.Over the past 3 months, we have explored a series of options. Some were misleading, others just didn't turn out like we thought they would, some are still promising, and others will do for right now. SO, as of now this is where we stand: The last weekend of April, we will be moving into my Mom's basement in Roswell. Yes, you heard that right--We will be living in the basement of my childhood home until we fully figure things out. There are many aspects we're genuinely excited about...it will be wonderful to have a break from running a household (Mom's are always so helpful), I love that my Mom will be able to help us with Ella and Baby #2, and of course, knowing that my family is right there whenever we need something is awesome. We've never had family in town and this is super exciting! Other parts are kind of comical...Brent, Ella, Baby #2, Baxter, Dolce, Emma the Cat, and I will all be living in 1,200 square feet with one bathroom. Of course we will have full access to the upstairs, but our "personal space" will be limited! We feel very blessed that my Mom has offered to open her home to help us out while we get our life figured out and are certain this is the best plan for us right now.
Why can't we figure things out right now, you ask? Well, Brent has taken a job 4 days a week in Dawsonville for the next year which will be approximately a 45 minute commute from Roswell...ugh to the commute. He will also be working 1 day a week in Atlanta. As of today, we are hoping the Atlanta opportunity turns into a partnership and it's looking promising. Brent and the dentist have been discussing possible expansion opportunities in the Atlanta area that are exciting. It is our prayer that this option will work out for the future; but it's not a guarantee. We decided it would be foolish to purchase a home in case things don't work out...so we are going to enjoy living in the basement until our plans are more definite. We have a history of making decisions too quickly and we really want to use our heads this time.
This is definitely an unexpected path for us. In our minds we saw ourselves owning a home right about now, buying furnishings, decorating a nursery for Baby #2...but that's not going to happen just yet. But, here's the thing, life's not always going to go the way you planned it out in your head. I always think of that quote..."If you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans"...isn't it the truth? So, that's where we stand. We've embraced this new adventure and are looking forward to what the future holds. At the end of this day, this isn't a big deal at all when you put life into perspective....in fact we are pretty darn lucky!
So "the rest of our life plan take two" starts seven weeks from today. Where we'll end up...who knows? But it is our hope that God has a plan for us that is bigger than our plans and we are grateful to have the opportunity to take our time to make the BEST decision for our family! Stay tuned....
Kris, I love your perspective on everything! I love your trust in the Lord - just keeping an open and prayerful heart can lead to so many good things. How wonderful that your precious mom will be just steps away!! I have SO many fun and happy memories in that home!! Love you and excited that you will be back in Roswell!!
ReplyDeleteWhoa- I missed a lot when I was away! So glad you all are going to be so close again. Is it weird if I invite myself for sleepovers like the old days?
